This non-profit family coffee house (yes, you read that right) is located in Tabor Commons and open daily for families to stop in, have coffee or hot chocolate, and play. Numerous classes and activities are also offered for babies, toddlers, and up. Changing stations are available, as well as a nice selection of kid-offerings in the café. Plan to stay awhile!

Great for small kids

Portland’s Cafe Au Play is a nonprofit coffee house and community center with an unbeatable family-friendly environment. The cafe features large play areas for kids, as well as activities for children, caregivers, and other community members. This establishment is wholeheartedly dedicated to bettering the community, and features the work of local artists on the walls, as well as affordable healthy food including gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian foods. Some of Cafe Au Play’s most popular activities for kids and adults include: a new fathers’ workshop, a book club, balance bike demos, story time with Olive Rootbeer and Dingo, music and puppets, as well as a multi-cultural song circle. There’s always opportunities for fun and entertainment at Cafe Au Play, and after you and your kids work up an appetite, you can grab a quick meal on-site. The Cafe’s kids menu features numerous kid-approved favorites for less than $5 per meal. Popular kids menu items include: a fruit and cheese plate, grilled cheese sandwich, fruit parfait, PB&J, apple dippers and more.
